Ed’s Gaming Resource for the Internet
Serving the online community since...3rd November, 2003.

Updated August 4th, 2006

THE PLAN:

Updates are theoretically easy, but become painful when you face the fact that you have no content to fill the void. Well, this page has some serious problems. One, the layout isn't focused; two, I'm highly restricted as to the amount of content I can place on it (still roughly 20 MB total, I believe); three, I can't use CSS so editing this page is a nightmare. Finally, I have taken custodianship of the Contra H.Q., and that will be a better resource than this page ever was. I'm not certain what use this page will eventually have - if I can figure out a relatively painless way of updating, I might change it into a sort of blog. My whole modus operandi has changed as well; I only focus on things I want to now. I'm a happier gamer than I was when I began this blog, and have started playing more than collecting and Foruming.

Here you'll find the previous version of this page dating from January 2004.

Here is the Japanese Mega Drive page: it hasn't been updated in a long time and truth be told I don't have the resources to fill it out completely (it's also unclear what use it serves - if anybody wants to make use of it let me know).

At one time I did a bit of work helping to fix up the Roundtable's list of links, but I haven't worked on it for some time.
The Contra H.Q., the site I've taken over : My Retrogaming Roundtable Blog, requires a free registration - also check out the forums! : The Castlevania Dungeon : My GameTZ page (outdated) : edoscuro AT hotmail DOG! com - my email ;)

Items in this list are organized by manufacturer and then further organized by type (promotional items, magazine ads, and licensed products before other pictures) and system release date.

Sticker Game Boy (licensed cereal premium distributed by Kellogg’s c.1995; I received mine loose as you see here—not found in a box—at the Binder Park Zoo’s “Zoo Boo” in 1995 (I live in Battle Creek) Cheesy? Oh yes. Rare? Probably not. There are stickers on the other side of the sticker strip as well; far as I can tell there’s a classic Link from Zelda 2 on there and some other characters.

Phantasy Star "Fukkokuban" (Rerelease Edition) One seller on eBay claimed that there were only 1000 of these made. If that's so, they wouldn't be selling it for $68 on eBay, would they? (Insert guffaw here.) Anyhow, the artwork is the same as that on the original Mark III /Master System package...not as nice as the clean line drawings inside the package, not nearly as nice. That said, it's...colorful. And stuff. At least the characters look mostly the same, right?
Phantasy Star: The End of the Millennium
Super Shinobi 2--First Beta
I've seen two betas floating around out there--this is apparently less complete than the later beta, as it has a lot of nifty ideas not introduced into the final version - a backwards flipping cartwheel, many different enemies and different sprite color schemes for familiar ones. A lot of new bosses are found here, but they aren't completed (most simply cycle through various frames of animation very quickly)..

Super Shinobi 2--First Beta (Savestates for Gens 2.11)
Super Shinobi 2--Second Beta
At first this seems like exactly the same game as the final Super Shinobi 2/Shinobi 3, but there are actually many differences. Control isn't quite what up to par and I believe it's impossible to beat the Stage 4 boss (water-jet thing). That said, look through these screenshots to see what's "new," er, old.
Super Shinobi 2--Second Beta (Story screen part 1) Quite dramatic for 1993, don't you think?

Hardware pictures

Unknown x68K series machine picture a According to the seller it was—er, still is—an “x68K ACE” machine, but according to different (Japanese and English) websites, it looks like the x68K Expert, since the Sharp logo on the case isn't in red (and the Ace computers were beige in color). If it helps, this is model CZ-603D (you’re more likely to find stuff in a web search using that model number). However I will eventually be able to answer this as everything pictured I will be able to inspect eventually! Check back later. The single tower to the right of the actual computer is an “RGB System Tuner CZ-6TV,” the joystick is a “Cyber Stick,” and not pictured is a “Sound Pro 68K.”

Game boxes

Various types of game box exist, some apparently somewhat like Neo Geo or maybe plastic snap-shut Genesis cases, others (like Gradius 2 Gofer and Akumajo Dracula) have a sleeve which slides over an internal box (in the case of Akumajo Dracula, a plastic case with a clear window for a door which swings upwards)

CD-i:

Hardware pictures

CD-i 370 portable system and games This portable is Digital Video compatible right out of the box and can output PAL as well as NTSC format, and is comparable to a Sega Saturn in size (when folded up) though it is ligher. It has a very nice screen but tends to get hot on the underside within an hour or two of use. This particular unit was manufactured in mid-1996. Over time it has developed a problem where it sometimes doesn’t load sounds in Hotel Mario, and crashes in The 7th Guest past the basement maze (CD-ROM drive probably going a bit iffy). This picture is from the original auction.
